According to sources, it was confirmed that Hugh Hefner was buried next to Marilyn Monroe. It was reported by the late Jerry Herman’s goddaughter Jane Dorian last Thursday that their burial crypt is up for sale with starts from $2 million.
The place where their crypt is located in Los Angeles’s Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park. It was found that there were some renowned graves in that same park which included Dean Martin, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood, and Farrah Fawcett.
Originally, the crypt was purchased at the price of $75,000 in 1997 by Herman, who was popularly known for his musical composition. It was reported that Herman was living in Los Angeles during the purchase as he was scared after testing positive for HIV.
Dorian said to a source, “There’s Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner, then Jerry’s. He’s next to the two sexiest people that were ever alive.”
Herman’s goddaughter said, “He wanted to make sure his final resting place was up to his standard. “It goes back to the adage: location, location, location.”
Herman started taking antiviral drugs, which helped to suppress his condition. This led him to live at the age of 88 and die of natural causes.
He was then moved to Miami, where he was finally buried next to his mother in New Jersey. In 2017, Hefner passed away. Before his death, he discussed his $75,000 purchased crypt, which was next to Marilyn Monroe. Monroe’s death was found to be in 1962.
Monroe was previously the star of the first Playboy cover. Hefner told Los Angeles Times in 2009 that he would spend the rest next to the grave of Marilyn. He said, “Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.”
Richard Poncher was another person who bought the crypt above Monroe. In 2009, he said, “He said, ‘If I croak if you don’t put me upside down over Marilyn, I’ll haunt you the rest of my life.”
He added, “I was standing right there, and [the mortician] turned him over.” According to Elizabeth, she uploaded the crypt on eBay for starting price of $500,000.
However, some financial difficulties led to the crypt finally falling on a bid for $4.6 million. According to a source, Poncher is still buried in the crypt.
