New York Giants tight end Darren Waller was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the team announced Saturday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Waller — who now must miss at least four games — said Wednesday that he expected to miss time and was “very frustrated” with the injury.
- He re-aggravated the injury in Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets and played 17 snaps before leaving the game.
- Quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who sustained a rib injury against the Jets, was also placed on IR, and tight end Lawrence Cager was signed to the roster from the practice squad.
Durability issues
Waller was available for a third-round pick this offseason due to durability concerns. He was limited to nine games last season by a hamstring injury, so it’s not a surprise that the 31-year-old is sidelined again.

Waller said his absence last season was extended because he aggravated the injury multiple times while pushing to get back too soon. With that in mind, Waller indicated Wednesday that he would likely miss multiple weeks to allow the hamstring to fully heal.
