ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Police Department is investigating after two French Bulldogs and more than $1,000 in cash were stolen from a Buckhead dog grooming and boarding facility.
“Never in a million years thought someone would break into a dog boarding house to steal two dogs and a safe,” Kellie Hannon, owner of the two French Bulldogs, said.
"Only our two dogs were taken out the of the 13 that were there," Hannon told 11Alive. "They were kept separately for behavioral reasons."
Hannon said the dogs breed and cost running in the thousands leads her to believe the break-in wasn't random.
"It doesn't sound real when you hear that somebody broke into a boarding place to steal dogs...that doesn't happen. It seems very unreal," Hannon said.
According to police, officers responded to Kelsey’s Dog House on Buckhead Ave. NE on Sept. 27 around 8 a.m. in response to a burglary.
Police said the two dogs were reported missing, along with a safe containing around $1,400 in cash and blank checks. Two large kennel cages that had been screwed into the wall were also stolen.
Mike Ringuette, who has owned Kelsey's Dog House since 2009, said his team arrived at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning to get ready to open for the day and saw the door knocked in.
"It was complete shock," Ringuette told 11Alive.
Officials said there were signs of forced entry but no surveillance cameras in the facility.
"They are our family. We want them back," Hannon said. "We are willing to offer a $5,000 reward for the dogs, no questions asked. We just want them back safely."
The investigation is ongoing.
