Famous 'Up' house faces uncertain future

The Edith Macefield house in Ballard, known as the house that inspired the movie "Up," will likely have to be moved or demolished.

SEATTLE - The Edith Macefield house in Ballard, known as the house that inspired the movie "Up," will likely have to be moved or demolished.

The home was made famous after Macefield refused to sell the century old home to developers after being offered $1 million.

The house, which is located on 46th Street, is now visited by people from all over the country as a symbol of courage and tenacity.

The house was recently put up for sale, but dozens of potential buyers hit too many roadblocks in purchasing and fixing up the property to get it to code.

The home will now go up for sale for the next 30 days with the intention to have a buyer purchase the home and move it to a different location where it would be cheaper to maintain.

If the house is not purchased by July 29, Macefield's home will likely be demolished, and the land will be sold as an empty lot.

Many people who visited the house on Monday said they hope the house stays where it is.

"If you move the 'I'm not going to move' house, then it's not the 'I'm not going to move' house anymore." Patrick Colombo said.

Regardless of what happens to the home, Paul Thomas, the Broker for the home, says Macefield's memory will live on.

"She won't be forgotten, I'm quite sure of that. Not in our lifetimes." Thomas said.

If you want to inquire about the possibility of purchasing the home, you can visit Paul Thomas on his website.
