Alice Mae Jenkins, beautiful life ended suddenly at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 69, December 31, 2021. She was gracefully surrounded by her loving family and long-time friend Ronnie Warren. Alice’s life journey started with her birth on February 3, 1952, to the late Sammie Charlie & Sarah Blount in Engelhard, North Carolina. She was the oldest of seven children (two boys and five girls). Although she was born in North Carolina, she was raised in various states (Georgia, Germany, Massachusetts, Texas, Colorado, Virginia), by her loving parents. While attending Hayfield High School, in Alexandria, VA, she also completed her cosmetology certification at T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. She was quiet, yet she had big dreams and aspirations of a career in Cosmetology specializing in hair and makeup. She possessed a raw talent of singing at talent shows and playing around with her siblings. Alice’s work ethic was epic; she landed her first big job at the Rotunda Building in Arlington, VA. Not long after she met her husband Dwight Anthony Jenkins who she married at the age 17. She eventually moved to Portsmouth, VA to be closer to her immediate family. The proud mother of 7 beautiful children (two girls and five boys); allowed her to work closer to home to help provide for her family, in Norfolk, VA. Her extended years of working at the Belo’s, formerly known as Piggly Wiggly’s, eventfully led to retirement. Alice Mae was a fun-loving mother who got a kick out of watching her children and grandchildren sprawling around the living room on special occasions, family gatherings or just playing around on short visits. She was quick to offer advice and strongly encouraged wise decisions to be made, no matter what. She loved singing, cooking, and decorating. shopping and catching a good movie on TV. She was preceded in death by her late husband Dwight Anthony Jenkins, two children: Son, Deonne Laray Jenkins, Daughter, Alicia Laverne Jenkins, her Father, Sammie Charlie Blount, her Mother, Sarah Blount, and Tom Brown (her natural father), from Engelhard, North Carolina. To cherish her precious memories, she leaves: Longtime companion Ronnie Warren of Norfolk, VA; her five children: Dwight Anthony Jenkins Sr., Demetric Jenkins, Derek Jenkins, Amanda Jenkins, Damien Jenkins of Norfolk, VA; 21 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. Two Daughter In-laws: Nicole Williams-Jenkins and Aleenia Jenkins; Two Brothers: Sammie Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; Charlie Blount of Culpepper, VA; Four Sisters: Gloria Lacey of Suffolk, VA, Catherine Weeks of Chesapeake, VA, Sandra Diane Mason of Woodbridge, VA; Jennette Booker of Augusta, GA; Two Brothers-In-Law: Linwood Mason and Ron Weeks; Two Sisters-In-Law: Sandra Blount and Sonya Blount; In addition, she will be missed by her loving Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, a vast number of other relatives and caring friends.
