MercyMe’s “Say I Won’t” is centered on the idea of the narrator experiencing a new lease on life. That is to say that he has become aware of a heightened potential which living holds. In the first verse, he sounds sort of like he had a life-changing event or at least an epiphany which has made him realize that he has been operating under maximum capacity.

So basically he is now dedicating himself to living life to the fullest. And the title reads as if he is daring those who believe and propagate that he “won’t” achieve this goal. Additionally, it has also been noted that this track has been inspired by one Gary Miracle, a longtime associate of MercyMe who unfortunately lost his arms and legs earlier in the year.
This song was written by MercyMe frontman Bart Millard alongside Jordan Mohilowski. And Mohilowski is also one of the track’s producers, with the following being the others:

“Say I Won’t” is to be featured on a forthcoming MercyMe project entitled “Inhale (Exhale)”.
The aforementioned Gary Miracle is a long-time roadie of MercyMe. He had his extremities amputated in January of 2020 after suffering from septic shock. And the music video to “Say I Won’t”, which was co-directed by Ryan Slaughter, chronicles his road to recovery.
Brody Harper is also a co-director of the video.
