Acaster and Ford commenced their relationship in 2010 and were together until 2013. However, the couple's relationship started to crumble after two years as Louise became visibly cold and distant from him. She eventually broke up with him in 2013, but it took more than a year for James to find out the real reason for their breakup.
It turned out Louise grew close to Rowan Atkinson after they acted together in a play titled Quartermaine’s Terms. Acaster learned from a magazine that his girlfriend left him to be with Mr. Beans. Acaster started dating New Zealand comedian Rose Matafeo in 2015, two years after his relationship with Louise Ford ended.
The duo first met in New Zealand and soon hit it off. Initially, James and Rose maintained a long-distance relationship; however, Matafeo later shifted to London to be with her boyfriend.
Their relationship went smoothly for a year, but the couple split in 2016; the reason for their break up has not been revealed to date.
Rose, best known for her performances in Starstruck and Funny Girls, later hinted that the relationship didn't work out due to their similar work nature. As both Acaster and Matafeo are comedians, their professional rivalry could have played a crucial factor in the split.
Talking to Newshub NZ, Rose mentioned that dating James was like dating a co-worker. She added that no one should date a comedian, including the New Zealand artist.
