François-Henri attended the HEC School of Management, graduating in 1985. During college, he founded a CRM company called Soft Computing, interned at Hewlett-Packard in Paris, and worked as a software developer. After graduation, he completed his compulsory military service at the French Consulate in Los Angeles and studied fashion and technology sectors in the United States.

He became the CEO and President of PPR, which was later renamed Kering, and oversaw the acquisition of luxury brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga. Pinault also focused on sustainability and launched a women’s rights organization, which led to a drop in sales but an increase in profits. Kering sold off non-luxury companies like Puma and Volcom and appointed unexpected creative directors for Gucci and Balenciaga, which resulted in a significant increase in sales. Kering also became active in the eyewear industry, launching Kering Eyewear and acquiring Lindberg in 2021.
