Vanessa Guillen's family is yet to receive the $35 million military gratuity for the wrongful death against the Army.
Although the family is entitled with the amount of money, it is unclear whether they have received the money or not. The fact that her mother and sisters are still fighting for justice suggests that they have not got the claim yet.
The soldier who went missing from the military base was found dead near the river after over two months. She was allegedly killed by another soldier.
Aaron David Robinson, who was involved in the murder, shot himself when the police officers attempted to apprehend him near Killen, Texas. His girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar was taken into custody for allegedly helping him dismember the body and bury it. On July 2, 2020, she was charged with a charge of tampering with evidence.
She later explained that he killed her because she saw his phone screen which was Aguilar's picture but she was married to another soldier. So, he hit Guillen with a hammer in the head. Guillen's family filed a lawsuit against the Army seeking $35 million for the wrongful death claim against the Army. The Army was previously known for protecting damage claims relating to sexual abuse.
Their attorney, Natalie Khawam notified the Army that she was sexually assaulted and harassed during her service. The lawyer stated that if Army denied the claim she planned to file a lawsuit against them because she told her mother that she was sexually harassed in 2019.
According to The Texas Tribune, Vanessa's personality changed drastically in 2019 when she told her family that she was sexually harassed by other soldiers. A supervisor asked her to participate in a threesome. There were many occasions when she was harassed in the army.
There are no details as to the result of whether the family got the $35 million they were seeking against the Army for the wrongful death claim.
