Did Greg Calhoun go missing from Arizona? The answer is ‘no.’ Greg was reported as a Montgomery businessman who was 66 years old as of 2022.
Unfortunately, Greg was dead. His family confirmed that he died on Thursday in Los Angeles. ShaKenya Calhoun, Greg’s daughter, said that her father lost consciousness and never woke up after that.
She shared a post on Facebook where she wrote that her family felt grateful for the time to spend with Greg Calhoun. She said his family would never forget him and be alive in their memories.
Calhoun’s career began as a grocery store bagger. In 1984, he founded Calhoun Enterprises, Inc., a supermarket company, and served in his company as president and CEO.
He owned Calhoun Foods, a Montgomery-based grocery aimed to provide service to the community, and it did for more than 30 years.
In 2015, the last branch of Mongomery was closed, and there was one time when seven stores were opened in the city.
Greg was the founder of the Greg Calhoun Foundation. This foundation hosted golf tournaments for several years and made a huge revenue for the Sickle Cell Foundation.
On a number of occasions, Greg worked with Steve Harvey. In 2017, both played a major role in promoting Alabama State University’s Turkey Day Classic. They also had a meeting with President Donald Trump in which they discussed creating job opportunities for Americans.
He had multiple business ventures and was in contact with Michael Jackson, Magic Johnson, and Prince. His death at 66 brought enormous sorrow to his family, friends, and those who knew him.
President Dr. Quinton Ross, Jr., Alabama State University, shared a statement after Greg’s passing:
“The Alabama State University family is saddened to learn of the loss today of one of Montgomery’s most prominent business leaders and philanthropists and a great friend to the community and to Alabama State University, Greg Calhoun. Mr. Calhoun rose from humble beginnings to become one of Alabama’s most successful business people, whose impact reached local, national and international levels.
We offer our condolences to the Calhoun family and pray that God’s peace will be with them during this time.”
