200,000+ audiobooks on Spotify for premium U.S. listeners

From now on, listeners can log into their account to start seeing audiobooks marked as "included in premium."

ATLANTA — Spotify is going beyond music and podcasts to beef up its offerings.

Over 200,000 audiobooks are now available as part of Spotify Premium subscriptions in the U.S. Subscribers now have access to a wide range of genres for no extra cost, the digital music service company announced Wednesday.

From now on, listeners can log into their account to start seeing audiobooks marked as "included in premium."

Each user, including the owners of family and duo accounts, will have a allotted 15 hours of monthly listening added onto their account. This is an average of two audiobooks per month under the time limit. Extra listening hours can also be purchased.

Apart from being a new way to experience stories, younger generations have taken a liking to audiobooks.

A customer survey of over 1,000 people showed that younger generations lead in audiobook listening, with 72% of 18-to-34-year-olds reporting that they listen to audiobooks.

Spotify's survey found people are turning to audiobooks for comfort and to relax. According to the survey, 41% of audiobook listeners prefer listening to their books because of cognitive benefits — like improving their memory or keeping their minds active.

With more than 100 million tracks, 5 million podcasts, and 200,000 audiobooks, there's something for everyone.
